The layout was designed by Arnold Palmer and cleverly uses the exisitng woodland and water. Arnold Palmer believes that the golfer should be challenged from the first tee shot to the final green. At the same time the course should be fair and enjoyable to play. These objectives have been acheived. This course, to be host of the Ryder Cup in 2006, has been host to the Smurfit European Open since 1995, Europe's most sought after trophy after The Open.
